A New Way to Explore A Lake!

At the beginning!

Slowly moving on the water, we waved back and forth as if we were slow dancing, yet, it was like watching someone balance themselves on the balance beam. Sometimes we fought to stay up and sometimes we just stopped. As time went on, the waves became more prevalent with a gentleness that lapped onto you like the lick of a small puppy or a strength that pushed you over the edge like a cat pushing a full cup of water off the table.

Watching for others screaming across the lake, and there were plenty, we eventually saw the point the gas pedal could be pressed (like the pedal to the metal) and off we would go. Regrets flew threw my mind. Why did I want to do this? Can we do something else? Why me? But it was only for a short time, sort of. I almost tapped my husband’s shoulder to ask him to go back to the dock. Safety might be there.

But what fun would that be by giving up on something that could be potentially fun?

He pressed the gas pedal as soon as we passed a buoy, and off we went! And went we go! Super fast! This super fast device was a jet ski we rented at Lake Pleasant near Morristown, Arizona. Before I get started, here is some information if you would like to try it:

You can either take the stairs (there are a lot!!) or the elevator!

Facility: Pleasant Water Sports, Scorpion Bay, Lake Pleasant, Morristown, Arizona

Rentals: Not only do they rent jet skis, they also rent yachtuzzi boats, paddle boards and kayaks

Fees/hours: Jet skis: $125/hr., half day: $375 and full day: $495. The jet skis fit up to two people comfortably.

What is NOT included: Gas and taxes

Deposit: They do require $300 for a credit card, or $500 for cash. You will get most of it back after the payment of the jet ski (or whatever you rent) and the gas and taxes have been applied. You will pay up front half of the rental and it is NOT refundable. But you can reschedule if needed at least 48 hours ahead.

More information: a short video is required to watch before going on the jet ski. Basically it is to scare you so you do not do anything bad.

My husband and I have NEVER rented a jet ski. Paddleboarding is my cup of tea as it is a slow pace type of sport until the wind picks up. I wanted to try this to see if we would like to purchase a jet ski in the future or do some more renting of those vehicles. Well, I do have a verdict on whether or not to purchase a jet ski at the end of this blog.

But first, lets get back on the water. I think if I was younger I would have LOVED the exhilaration of speed, but I did not, at least not for a while. I kept telling John to slow down and he did. He was nervous too. He only drove a snow mobile many moons ago, and a jet ski is completely DIFFERENT.

Did you know sitting with your legs open like on a seat with a person in front of you gets tiring??? Yep, we stopped and stood up on the jet ski to stretch our legs. Another time we stopped a wave was coming and John thought he had the jet ski under control. Well, no, there is no such thing as control when it comes to waves. He jumped off the jet ski, trying to keep the jet ski from tipping over with me on it and a sore knee. Kudos to John and at least he got cooled off and the jet ski did not tip over! When it comes to waves it is hard to keep balanced if you are at a stop. There were plenty of people flying over waves created by boats but we were not quite in that category.

By the time we went all over the lake I was more confident of being on a jet ski, even with being sore for sitting a long time. I had my trusty phone in a case hanging on my neck so I could take photos and videos. We both wore life jackets which is a MUST on the lake. We both had a good time and enjoyed it even though it was scary at times.

So, do we want to purchase a jet ski in the future?

NOPE!

I don’t mind renting them and we plan to rent one again on a different lake, but I do prefer the pace of a paddleboard, a slower pace like I said above and a little more control. John is kind of “iffy” on paddleboards but I think after driving a jet ski he might appreciate it now.

But I do recommend trying a jet ski if you have not yet. The people we rented the jet skis from were super nice and helpful, especially trying to park it. There are plenty of people that rent out their own jet skis on Facebook Marketplace, but it was nice to have the jet skis readily available at the lake with the help we got.
