Living Life Away From Fulltime RVing

Gorgeous red rock on a hiking trail in Sedona, Az

Looking at photos of our travels, I sigh. The states, the towns, the people in those towns, the uniqueness of each place we spent time in. Places that I felt like a member in, a part of the town. How I miss some of the places we visited, the places we lived in for a time and the places that were awe-inspiring. But I can sum up this feeling in one word: transitions. Ah, yes, that wonderful and yet not so wonderful word, transitions. I feel like I am transitioning, like you would growing from childhood to adult, non working person to working employee, high school to college, single to married and no children to children. I think you get the picture!

Living life away from fulltime rving has been somewhat familiar, but yet sometimes feels sort of strange. I had got so accustomed to moving from place to place in our RV when not work camping, that coming back to my home state has been an adjustment. Always a different backyard and views! But now living in an apartment it is always the same, same backyard, same views. Not really bored with it, but I do miss some views in the states we visited. And the cooler weather!!!

So what are we up to? Well, John is working at a construction facility as a water truck driver. His health is fine so far, but I still worry about him. I have decided to not go back to college. I am proud I went for a whole school year at my age! But it was a challenge. I did some contemplating while looking at my travel photos, which are hung up inside of my apartment on walls, reminding me of the travel experience we once had. I still have that zest for travel, but only on a part time basis. So with much thought I decided to work at a school again as a teacher assistant or paraprofessional. I know it is not what my recent schooling was about, but I would like to work with kids again and enjoy time off for, you guessed it, traveling part time!

I have adjusted living back home again, but sometimes it is weird. I miss traveling. I really do. But I do not miss living in the RV. It got so small for my husband and I. Plus I had a “hang-up” with no washer and dryer. I need those items in my life. But I do yearn to travel again.

We have been getting John’s truck ready for pulling our new to us and much smaller RV. It has been such a task! So hopefully we can get it going soon to our first camping spot in a much cooler spot away from the heat of our city! Will post about that and cannot wait!

I sometimes pinch myself thinking, did we really live and travel in a RV fulltime? It was a short time, sometimes I feel too short, but I do remind myself it did happen, not quite the way I thought it would go. I know I did not want to do it the rest of my life. I did not feel it was feasible as something I could do long term. Usually guys can do it for a very long time or the rest of their lives, but I really want a home again. Something I could call my home, a place of rest and refreshment, security, especially as we get older and life changes for us. Not looking forward to aging!!

But for today, I am grateful we had the opportunity to travel quite a distance, something we could not do before fulltime rving, and I am hopeful we can travel again, not as much, but still seek places we can leave our fingerprints on. Live life with no regrets!!!
