Storage In A RV? Don’t Make Me Laugh!

Storage? Do you have storage in your RV? So I am trying to be funny, sort of, but honestly, storage has been a challenge for me.

We do have cabinets and a closet for our closet, but it is half or even a quarter of the size we had in our house. Before we moved into our trailer, I had to get rid of a LOT of stuff I owned so we could fit, and even after we moved in, I still had to get rid of stuff!

So what I have done is live small with just a little bit of stuff, like a handful of cups, bowl, silverware. Clothes on the other hand is hard. Can’t wear shorts year round and I wish we could! So squeezing pants and shorts together in a small dresser has been a tight fit, but doable. I had to realize that I need to live with little so we could be comfortable in our RV. Sometimes we do indeed have too much stuff, so living small has taught me I do not need as much, therefore less spending.

An RV has some storage, but do not expect it to be like your house. If you really need more items or plan to live in your RV for a short time, maybe rent a storage unit. As we are transitioning into a home again, we do have a small storage unit with items that we will use for our future home.

Maximize cabinet space by having less, storing less and learning to live with less. Do you need a dozen cups or bowls. No! Can you fit items you purchased from Costco in your trailer? That is a challenge, and yes, we do shop at Costco, but I think we are pretty savvy when it comes to Costco. You can spend a mint there, besides snacking on the food from the samples! So, we have an outdoor kitchen we never use as an outdoor kitchen as everything is too high for me. We stuff our Costco purchases, like paper products in it and works like a charm.

Sometimes you might have to use space that you thought you would be for something else, like underneath your bed. Do you have space there? We have a small space, like a rectangular space that I store family pictures in, and other things I would not use on a daily basis. I just could not see renting a storage space as we lived in a RV for a long time. But some do!

Storage in a RV can be a laughable experience, especially coming from a home, trying to cram what you had in your home to something so small you wonder if you can actually live in it fulltime! But if you want to live small, then storing your precious items should not be a problem for you.
